Hahei Volunteer Fire Service

For all emergencies ALWAYS dial 111

For police non-emergency line dial 105.

Hahei Volunteer Fire Brigade (FENZ)

This is a volunteer station. That means all members of our brigade dedicate their own time in order to serve this community.

We respond to a variety of emergencies in our local area. These include:

  • Fires
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Search and rescue
  • Civil defence
  • Natural disaster responses
  • Medical Emergencies

And of course, we also offer fire safety advice.

If you want to visit this station, get in touch with us by phoning the acting brigade secretary BeeJ on 027 390 512 or come by the station at 7.30pm on a Wednesday training night to see how we operate

Hato Hone St John Ambulance

For all emergencies ALWAYS dial 111

For police non-emergency line dial 105.

The St John ambulance service in Mercury Bay South covers Ferry Landing to Boat Harbour Road.

Our vehicle is Hahei based and manned by a small but awesome team of Paramedics, EMT’s and First Responders.

Most of our team live in Hahei though some of us live in Whenuakite and Cooks Beach. We also have one very special volunteer who provides weekend and summer cover when he visits from Auckland.

If you are interested in volunteering for Hato Hone St John (HHSJ) call Penne on 021 554 442 or visit the HHSJ website https://www.stjohn.org.nz/support-us/volunteer/

Volunteer Reserves Group

Our community is lucky to have seven designated reserves, each with its own character and purpose, Beachfront, Kotare, Margaret Place, Tutaritari, Village Green, Pa Road, and Wigmore East and West.

These spaces are managed by the Thames Coromandel District Council under the Reserves Act, with formal management plans guiding how they are used, cared for, and protected. In plain English, there is a plan to keep them looking good, functioning well, and still here for the next generation to enjoy.

This is where the Reserves Group comes in.

Our dedicated crew of volunteers rolls up each week with a plan, usually involving weeding, tackling pest plants, or getting new planting in the ground. It is equal parts fresh air, community spirit, and quiet satisfaction when something starts to grow where a weed once lived. If you have an hour to spare and don’t mind a bit of dirt under the nails, you will fit right in.

Country Kids

At Whenuakite Country Kids we provide an environment which strengthens the sense of belonging for all tamariki, whānau and kaiako. The heart of our centre is built upon strong reciprocal relationships within our community. We have enormous gratitude for the many whānau and friends in our community who have contributed to our centre over the years. We honour the wealth of knowledge and experience which everyone in our learning community brings to our centre. We are a well-resourced centre with strong connections to our environment, our local schools and community groups.

Whenuakite Primary School

Whenuakite School is a rural school with a rich history, excellent learning outcomes, a supportive community and phenomenal learners. We are proud of each and every child and foster the uniqueness each brings to our school.

We utilise the local environment to build relationships and develop the whole child, educationally, socially and emotionally. When a Whenuakite Learner graduates in Year 8, they will be Kind, Innovative, Trustworthy and Enthusiastic participants to society.

It is the belief at Whenuakite School that each and every child has ‘spark’ and that we just need to ignite it; to encourage passionate, eager and self-regulated learners. It is our job to put each child on a pedestal where they are challenged, yet confident to learn.
